Headwaters Music Fund pays for professional studio time — so independent artists can cut the singles, EPs, and albums they can't otherwise afford to make. No repayment. No rights taken. No strings.
Why we exist
An independent artist can write the best songs of their life and still never afford the room to record them properly. Streaming economics gutted artist income. The old label deals are gone — or they come with strings that cost more than they give.
Professional studio time, the difference between a phone demo and a record, routinely runs from a few thousand dollars into the tens of thousands. For most working musicians, that number is simply out of reach.
Headwaters Music Fund exists to cover that one cost. We raise charitable dollars and deploy them as grants that pay for recording, production, and the making of a record. The artist keeps everything: their masters, their publishing, their name. We just help pay for the room.
Our promise to artists
A grant, not a loan. Nothing to pay back, ever.
You keep 100% of your masters, publishing, and ownership.
No profit share, no exclusivity, no obligation to us.
Funds go straight to your chosen qualified studio.
How it works
A simple, transparent path — reviewed on a quarterly cycle so every artist knows where they stand.
Tell us about your project, your budget, and where you want to record. Applications are accepted year-round.
Each quarter our board scores applications on merit, need, feasibility, and impact. Awards are announced within 30 days of the quarter's close.
Grants are paid directly to your chosen qualified Texas recording studio — so the money reaches the work, not overhead.
You book your sessions and cut your music. The finished work — and every right in it — is entirely yours.
Grant tiers
Whether you're cutting a single or making a full-length album, there's a tier built for the scope of your project.
For singles and EPs — the majority of what we fund. Enough to book real studio time, an engineer, and the players a song deserves.
For full-length records with the production a body of work demands. Awarded selectively each year at the board's discretion.

Support the work
Whether it's twenty-five dollars or a gift that funds an entire album, it all goes to the same place — an artist in a studio, making a record.
Give today
Headwaters takes gifts directly — no payment platform skimming a percentage off the top. Give once or commit monthly, and the full amount goes where you meant it to go: studio time for an artist who's earned the shot but can't cover the cost.
Headwaters Music Fund is a Texas nonprofit corporation.
Ways to give
Every gift is acknowledged in writing for your records.
Major & leadership gifts
A single gift can put an entire record into the world. The Founders Circle recognizes the donors who make that possible — and keeps you close to the artists and the music you help create.
Sponsorship & matching
Put your company behind the next generation of independent artists — and reach an audience that cares where its music comes from.
Many employers match charitable gifts — ask your HR team to stretch yours further.

Headwaters Music Fund was founded in 2026 in Harris County, Texas, by a small group who've spent their lives around records and the people who make them. We saw the same thing over and over: extraordinary artists stalled out at the studio door, not for lack of talent, but for lack of a few thousand dollars.
So we built a charity with one job — get those artists into the room. We're organized as a Texas nonprofit corporation. Our grantmaking is built to be fair, transparent, and free of favoritism: no preferred studio, no insider deals, every application judged on its merits.
